The taste is good, with the same effect as a Lays chip without the over-saltiness. We do wish it had more garlic flavor though. While the texture is fantastic with a great crunch, It leaves a slight oily feeling on your tongue.
These are certified gluten free by the SCS global foundation, and are palm oil free and grain free. They are also paleo friendly, vegan and kosher and do not contain any of the top 8 allergens.
While Solula is not readily available in stores, and must be purchased from their website, at about $5 a bag for a healthier, kettle-cooked chip with low sodium, the pricing is not too bad.
While plantains are pretty similar to potatoes in terms of starchiness and packed with carbs, they do also provide antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber unlike potatoes. So, if you do have to reach for a chip, these tostones would definitely be a better choice than your typical potato chip. Solula tostones are not organic, but they are non-GMO verified.
The garlic flavor is not very kid-friendly. While some kids may like these, most children would reach for the more traditional potato chip.
Solula works with local farmers in South and Central America, assisting them with maintaining their land and harvest. They also help reduce food waste by using plantains rejected for their looks to make tostones.
